Best Watersports in the Turks and Caicos islands

It’s no secret that we at the Big Blue Collective love our watersports! In fact, some have gone as far as to call us the experts in Water sports in the Turks and Caicos. While it’s up to you to decide if we deserve the accolade for our great service, we admit it’s a passion of ours! Today we take a look at the tons of fun you can have on (and in) the crystal-clear waters of the TCI.

Defining watersports- what happens on (and what happens in) the water

It’s a bit of a semantics difference, really, but knowing whether you enjoy watersports on the water or in it can help us find the perfect holiday combination of watersports in the TCI to match your personal taste.

Watersports that will keep you ‘on’ the surface of the water include exciting activities like Kiteboarding, SUP (stand up paddleboarding) and, of course, our charter boat trips. If you don’t really enjoy swimming (but have a little proficiency in it, of course) or prefer an ‘adventure’ feel to your activities, these are likely to be just perfect for you. You’ll get your adrenaline pumping, challenge your body and have tons of fun in the sun.

On the other hand, watersports in the Turks and Caicos can also be done in the water. These rely a lot more on swimming, of course, and tend to lack some of the ‘adventure’ aspects of the other sports. That’s not to say you won’t find tons to thrill you, however! Diving, snorkelling, swimming and other activities that involve submerging yourself in the water offer you a chance to experience the sea and its critters for yourself

Exploring life on the waves in the Turks and Caicos

Keen to try your hand on the water? Here’s just a few of the exciting on-water watersports in the TCI which the Big Blue Collective offers.

  • Kiteboarding

If you’re looking for the best destination in the world for kiteboarding, you’ve come to the right place! The shallow water of the TCI, combined with favourable and predictable trade winds through most of the year, means this is one of the very best places in the world to experience this exhilarating sport. It’s beginner-friendly, yet you’ll be finding exciting new ways to thrill yourself in the sport for years to come. In short, you haven’t experienced watersports in the TCI until you’ve kiteboarded through our azure waters. Keen to know more about this exciting adventure? We answer all the kiteboarding questions you have (and some you didn’t even think of) in this helpful article.

  • Stand Up Paddleboarding

If you’re looking for an accessible adventure sport in the Turks and Caicos you’ll fall in love with, try stand up paddleboarding on for size. This unique sport sees you scull through the waters from the back of your board, and is a great way to see a different perspective on the sights. You’re placed almost at water level, able to look down into the crystal clear water and around and the gorgeous vistas. No trip is complete without it!

  • Kayaking

If you want a unique way to explore the out islands and experience eco-tourism at it’s best, then kayaking is the way to go. Soar through the mangrove channels, pull off on a secluded beach for a picnic, and see the beauty of the untouched islands in the Turks and Caicos. The magic will seduce your mind.

  • Boating

With our versatile private fleet at your disposal, your choices for boating on your Big Blue Collective adventure are huge. No matter what you want- be it as a way to get to your next dive trip, or the perfect way to laze away the afternoon- we have the boat that will make your dreams come true.

On-water adventures come standard in the TCI, so be sure to bring your spirit of adventure!

Having fun in the water

Not all the fun happens on the surface, however! Here’s a glimpse at the fun in-water watersports the Turks and Caicos has in store for you. Which will you choose?

  • Diving

Diving may well be one of the most iconic watersports of the Turks and Caicos, if not the entire Caribbean. We’re proud to be able to offer divers of all levels something to delight them. You can’t just leap in the water and take a deep breath, however! You will need to be dive certified before you can enjoy the water. The great news is, the Big Blue Collective has simplified the process, and you will be able to get the theory part accomplished before your trip and complete your practical aspects as you arrive, ensuring you don’t miss a minute of fun. We’ve been called the ‘best dive shop around’, so you can rest confidently that our instructors will have you up-to-speed and confident asap.

2. Snorkelling

The world’s third-largest reef lies just a mile offshore of Provo. Add to this the warm, tranquil waters fish can rely on, and the many ocean-inclusive national parks set up through the islands, and there can be little wonder snorkelling in the TCI is such a rewarding experience. It’s also one of the few areas worldwide where the reefs are still in near-pristine condition, so you know that the thrill of a lifetime awaits you.

3. Swimming and other in-water activities

Of course, no beach experience would be complete without a dip in the water. Nowhere else in the world is that as perfect an experience as it is in the TCI. With always-warm, tranquil seas, you’ll feel enveloped in care. Long Bay and similar beaches provide shallow water ideal for the whole family, while those looking for a more bracing experience can enjoy exploring other bays.

Whether you venture onto the water or into it, the plethora of watersports in the Turks and Caicos is dazzling. Now you know a little more about your many options, the Big Blue Collective can help you make the right choice to make your dreams come true.
