Important things to know to score a great holiday deal in the Caribbean

We’ve all got that one friend who always seems to get things on special, score great deals, and somehow affords a fancy holiday every year, right? Well, they’re not really that special- they just know where to look for great deals. They’re just the sort of person who keeps a carefully curated collection of subscriptions, alerts and notifications so they’re always first to know when deals hit, and who knows that a little planning and street smarts are the key to scoring a great deal.

It starts with a little advanced knowledge. When do airlines, travel providers and other people in the holiday industry offer good deals? There are three main times to look for deals. That’s in your destination’s off-peak time, during ‘prime time’ like holidays, and for last-minute deals.

Off-peak travel

Travelling in off-peak season can be a great way to see places you otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford. Off-peak is the time of year when the holiday crush simmers down, so travel providers incentivise prices to see more business. It does have a few cons, mainly that seasonal tour operators and such may not be operating during off-peak times and flights may be more limited to certain destinations. That balances out with the chance to snag more luxurious accommodation, or extra experiences, then you may have been able to afford in the season.

For the Turks and Caicos, and the Caribbean in general, the off-season is the summer. Seems unusual, we know! That’s because the weather here is so great all year round. Summer can sometimes be a little too hot to handle, and combined with a greater chance of rain (in monsoon season) and the trade winds being a little less predictable, you’ll find more visitors here in the winter.

Holiday seasons

There are certain times of the year when the whole world just wants to travel! The most notorious of these, of course, is the Christmas/New Year season. This means that many, many eyes are shopping around for great deals on Caribbean holidays and all the fun they can bring. This incentivises travel providers to offer discounts and fab deals to make sure you choose them. Keeping an eye out for great deals around popular times of the year can be a smart method to score a sweet deal.

Last minute

Especially when it comes to airline travel, you will get your best deals by booking far in advance of your travel date, or right at the last minute. Obviously, an advance booking gives you the peace of mind of knowing that you have your seats booked. Last-minute may sound riskier, but it’s the perfect way to take advantage of a sweet deal spontaneously. These deals crop up for a few reasons. Sometimes people drop out of flights that were fully booked, and they’d rather get ‘bums on seats’. Sometimes it’s just a case of filling the last few rooms, or the last few seats on an attraction. Whatever the reason the provider offers it, it’s a great way for you to take advantage.

The key lies in knowing about the deals

This may sound obvious, but it’s surprising how many people don’t think about it. All the great deals on Caribbean holidays in the world could be out there, but if you never know it’s a thing, you can’t take advantage. You can’t sit glued to your PC 24/7 searching travel websites, either. While a quick google search when you’re in the mood for a deal may yield some interesting results, it’s important to remember that these deals are always limited. There’s only going to be a few spots open, and it’s first-come, first-serve.

One of the best possible ways to make sure you have a foot in the door when great deals happen is to identify your trusted providers and make sure you’re on the list to hear first. That’s why you can sign to receive deals from airlines, hotel groups and even individual providers. Not only do you get to stay in the loop and learn a lot about the destination, you’ll also be among the first to know when exciting specials on Caribbean travel happen.
