There’s one thing you can say for the Turks and Caicos- it’s impossible to do everything in just one trip! That’s why the Big Blue Collective sees so many friends and old faces coming back to these gorgeous islands again and again– and we guarantee you’ll be hooked, too. There’s something for everyone, with gorgeous beaches, spectacular wildlife experiences, and a plethora of water sports to choose from, so you’ll always find something new to experience. If you’re still wondering what to do in the Turks and Caicos, here’s just a few of our favourite experiences- we promise you’ll find a lot more waiting for you, too.
1.Bask on the Beaches
This is the home of one of the best beaches in the world, after all! While Grace Bay beach remains a favourite, both for it’s powder-soft sands and warm waters and its close proximity to the bustling large island of Provo and all its amenities, you are hardly confined to just this one beach. The beaches in the Turks and Caicos are, without exception, exquisite. What’s even more unusual, especially for such welcoming sands in such a gorgeous corner of the Carribean, is that you can skip the crowds entirely. In fact, on some of the smaller islands, you’re almost guaranteed a private beach moment! Whether you pack a picnic, sip cocktails on the beach, or simply let the lapping waters soothe your soul, the TCI beaches offer you a blissful experience.
2. Visit Cockburn Town
Cockburn Town on Grand Turk is a sight to please any bohemian heart. Packed with quaint Bohemian architecture for you to explore, simply walking these gorgeous, bright streets is a sight that will lift any heart. There’s plenty to explore and do, as well. This is the official capital of the Turks and Caicos, for all Provo tends to overshadow it a little. You’ll be able to explore the ruins of local plantations and the remainder of the salt industry that first rose the TCI to prominence. Head into the local museum to explore more about the islands’ fascinating past, including a little about the enigmatic proto-peoples discovered here. Even Guip House itself is fascinating, built primarily from shipwreck salvage! And don’t forget to pay a visit to the Grand Turk lighthouse while you’re here.
3. Sail the azure seas
What better way to get a true taste of the Turks and Caicos then via a private sailing charter? The Big Blue Collective are proud to offer one of the largest fleets in the island, so whether you’re looking to pack your trip on the waters full of diving and snorkelling, or you simply want the luxury to go anywhere and see anything, you’re free to choose.
4. Meet whales up close and personal
The famous annual TCI whale migration simply had to take a spot on the list. It’s the only experience on our list that’s truly seasonal, however, so be sure to plan accordingly. This adventure is perfect to pair with a Christmas holiday, as that sees the opening of whale season in the area. As part of the Humpback whale’s migration to the warmer seas in which they calve and play, the TCI acts as a funnel, making for a truly unprecedented level of sightings and interactions each year. Until you’ve experienced these beautiful beasts up-close-and-personal, there will be a little piece of your soul missing, so be sure to add this to your list of things to do in the Turks and Caicos.
5. Explore ecological lushness on an eco-tour
Despite its reputation as a water sports haven, the Turks and Caicos still offer an unparalleled amount of pristine, unspoilt natural environments. From the lush mangrove channels just begging you to hop on a stand up paddle board or kitesurf down them, to the unspoilt wilds of the out-islands and the unique charm of Iguana Island, there’s plenty for every eco-lover to experience. We off the Big Blue Collective are particular experts on the eco-tour front, and it’s a joy to see visitor’s faces light up as they explore this gorgeous environment for themselves.
6. Dive in a variety of environments
Whether it’s your first time dipping your head underwater, or you’ve a lifetime’s experience diving, experiencing the world’s third-largest barrier reef for yourself has to make your list of things to do in the TCI. The warm, gentle waters of the Turks and Caicos hide a multitude of secrets just begging you to explore them. From underwater cave systems to the shallow waters around the reef, there’s a little magic for everyone. Teaming with wildlife, you’ll love every minute of the experience. There’s even a wreck or two to explore, too!
7. Fall in love with the history and the romance
The Turks and Caicos Islands offer a little something for everyone. From the warmth of the beaches to the romance of her long history and the ruins of her old plantations, this is the ultimate retreat for the soul-weary. Let the gorgeous natural environs, warm waters, and soft beaches soothe your cares, and experience a dream like no other in the Turks and Caicos
